Personal hygiene should be basic knowledge, but not everyone gets it. You shouldn’t have to tell your partner to shower, do laundry, change the sheets, clean the house, etc.
Domestic Violence
Domestic violence not only includes physical abuse but also emotional and mental abuse and should not be tolerated. “Mental abuse can be worse for the victims as evidence is harder and self-doubt is constant,” mentions a user.
If They Can’t Goof Off
It’s a dealbreaker for some if their partner can’t get silly sometimes. A user says, “(It’s) better than intimacy for me, laughing uncontrollably to the point of hysteria with your partner. You can’t plan it or make it happen. It has to happen organically, but man, when it happens, it’s great.”
Unable to Handle Basic Adult Responsibilities
Another deal breaker is when a partner cannot handle adult responsibilities “like cleaning up after themselves or paying bills.”
Dishonesty and Deceit
A lying and cheating partner is an absolute no for many. “If my partner can’t be upfront and faithful with me, it’s an instant deal breaker,” expresses a commentator. Another adds, “Honesty/trust are the prime conditions in any relationship worth having.”
Mentions Her Ex Constantly
What has an ex got to do with your current relationship? It’s a huge red flag when a partner compares you to their ex, “favorably or unfavorably, trying to guilt you.”
Sometimes, “people like this are in love with their ex and are hurting themselves and others by not moving on or getting into something before moving on.”
Being Disrespectful in Public
This is a definite “turn-off.” One user recalls, “My ex used to throw tantrums in the street; it was awful. Her favorite was storming off and forcing me to decide between chasing after her to apologize or looking like a bad person for letting her walk off alone. It’s a lose-lose no matter what. Such a dirty tactic.”
Social Media Addiction
“If we can’t even eat without them taking 50 pictures and videos, then I’m walking out,” shares a user. It’s absurd when you can’t hold a conversation with your partner because they are busy replying to texts or sharing posts on social media.
Being Kept a Secret
There’s not much to say when you are kept secret from your SO’s friends and family. “It always feels like they’re either ashamed to be associated with you or keeping the back door open so they can ditch you with minimal drama if they feel like it,” says a post.
Nevertheless, some people from dysfunctional families argue that sometimes this deal breaker “is a lot less than ‘hiding you around my family’ and a lot more of ‘protecting you from my family.'”
Pressuring to Convert Religion
It is also frustrating when someone pressures you to convert to their religion and pushes their beliefs onto you.
Unable to Communicate Their Emotions
Lack of communication is a “total breakdown of a relationship” and “results in lack of empathy.”
One poster says, “These are the results of bad parenthood and childhood traumas. Some individuals don’t know that something is wrong with them, or if they know, they have no idea how to fix it, or worse, blame their partners for their bad behaviors.”
